The novel depicts a generation of telepathic children whose nervous systems begin operating in configurations the previous human form cannot model, supervised through their transition by an alien intelligence (the Overlords) that can perceive the threshold but cannot itself cross it, and absorbed at the climactic event into a non-corporeal cosmic intelligence (the Overmind) that the surviving witnesses can register only as catastrophe. The Archive catalogs the evidence — the seams where the rendering shows its machinery, the phenomena that prove consensus reality is not what consensus claims. The Threshold addresses the mechanics — how transitions occur, what critical mass does, why the current bifurcation matters, what the frequency shift produces. The Archive asks: what is the rendering? The Threshold asks: how does the rendering change, and what does it mean that the rendering can change?

The answer illuminates why the Great Work operates at both individual and collective scales simultaneously. The alchemical transformation from lead to gold, the tantric evolution from base animal consciousness to enlightened awareness, the mystical union described across traditions — these describe the individual aperture shift. When sufficient individuals achieve that shift simultaneously, coherence reaches critical mass. The individual great work becomes the species-level bifurcation. The same operation at different magnification. The same mechanism that produces enlightenment in one consciousness produces the planetary frequency shift in the species. Coherence breeds coherence. Signal entrains signal. The threshold is the moment when the gap between what is possible for individual consciousness and what is possible for collective consciousness collapses.
